Floyd Names Leaders for Committee on Committees

Ronnie Floyd, president of the Southern Baptist Convention, has named the 2015 Committee on Committees. This is the committee that is responsible for actually nominating the two people of their respective states to serve as members of the Committee of Nominations, who, in turn, nominate trustees to serve on boards of the various entities of the SBC. It’s quite a drawn out process, and it seems that this announcement is rather insignificant—and it is, except for the fact that his choices are highly indicative of the state of our denomination. Besides the usual race pandering you’ve come to expect from our leadership, the committee choices named are highly suspect. The two pastors chosen to lead this Committee on Committees is Dr. Bryan Smith, Senior Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Roanoke, Virginia, and Dr. Alex Himaya, Senior Pastor of theChurch.at in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Dr. Bryan Smith

Last year, Dr. Bryan Smith delivered the opening prayer for the U.S. House of Representatives on 4/2/2014. Listen to the prayer in the video clip below. The prayer is very ecumenical, unbiblical, and never once does he name the name of Jesus Christ. He could have been praying to Allah for all we know. I’m not suggesting that Dr. Smith isn’t a Christian, or doesn’t believe in Christ, but the point I’m trying to make here is that Smith was more than willing to compromise his role as pastor, and duty as a Christian, for the sake of ecumenism. In other words, he didn’t want to offend anyone by using Christ’s name. He made a complete mockery of prayer in front of our nation’s leaders simply to gain the notoriety of being there.

Dr. Alex Himaya, of thechurch.at, and previous youth pastor at a Crosschurch location that Floyd pastors, is also very questionable. He appears to be a highly charismatic, legalistic pastor who leads his congregations in prayers directly addressing Satan. He also recommends books by “Christian-witchcraft” teacher, Joseph Allbright. I highly recommend reading this article for more information on Dr. Himaya. It is due to a very sad state that the SBC is in right now that people like this can be elected or chosen to represent Christianity. But, of course, we could expect this from Floyd, since he himself is involved in witch-craft, and why wouldn’t he want like-minded people to follow in his footsteps?
